Abstract

A brief history of the emergence and spread of extremist threats in the territory of the Crimean Peninsula at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries is presentedin the article. Basing on the analysis of the activities of law enforcement agencies in this area, the
peculiarities of extremism in the recent Crimean history are revealed. The research focuses on the causes and conditions that contribute to the development of extremist activity in the region in
modern conditions, as well as promising areas of criminological prevention of this social phenomenon. The main manifestations of destructive nature and the forms of their implementation in the territory
of the Republic of Crimea, real and potential challenges and threats to the security of the regionare described in detail. They include: illegal migration; activities of international terrorist and extremist
organizations; religious, national and political extremism; youth and adolescents extremism; extremism in the information and communication environment. Monitoring the criminological situation in this area
made it possible to carry out the medium-term forecasting of external and internal extremist threats. Besides, the priority areas of law enforcement activities aimed at the prevention of extremist crimes on
the Crimean Peninsula are proposed
