Abstract

One of the urgent tasks facing the criminal investigation units is to improve the activities aimed at detecting murders. To solve this task, it is necessary to generalize the existing practice of detecting murders and to develop proposals for optimizing the law enforcement practice concerning the cases of this category. Taking into account the activities of the operational units of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation, the authors of the article consider the following algorithms of actions of the officers of criminal investigation departments in the course of detecting murders: carryingout initial crime detection actions during the crime scene search by the officers of criminal investigation
units; carrying out various crime detection actions to establish the identity of the victim; carrying out
specific crime detection actions to identify the person (persons) who has (have) committed the murder; carrying out a set of general search activities aimed at identifying the person (persons) who has (have)
committed the murder by the officers of other police units; carrying out crime detection activities against specific persons suspected of committing the murder by the officers of criminal investigation
units. Often, citizens have information that is important for the disclosure of murders. In this regard, the authors of the article analyze the influence of citizens’ motivation on assisting police officers
